Race Report from Regional RND 6 Vereeniging

20 October 2019 saw the last SA Rotax Regional RND6 of the 2018 season at Vereeniging Kart Circuit

The Mini Max Category was first up on the list of Racing. Moosa Kajee freshly back from Italy had a function to attend the Friday so had warm up Saturday morning to adjust from the Vortex Mini Rok to the Rotax Mini Max.

Having some issues with the Exhaust which is sealed by Rotax, the team had a lot of work ahead to get the kart fast for qualifying. Moosa did manage to qualify in 6th place and had a bullet start in heat 1 where he was in second place. But some slip ups on manouvere mis judgements let him fall down to 4th. The team made some adjustments for heat two which suited MK and his laptimes got closer to the fastest lap. The last heat was the strongest performance under MK , but missing Friday’s practice was showing and he ended 5th for the day. A very strong performance all in all.

Next up for Target Racing was Luvuyo Mobwano and Taiibi Tucci in the Rotax Senior Category. The boys qualified 5th and 7th respectively and had quite a quiet day with some dices here and there. Kept it clean and finished 6th and 7th.

Micro Max Drivers Ntiyiso Mabunda, Mahlori Mothlabani, Wian Boshoff and Kent Swartz took to the field of which Wian Boshoff qualified 4th, Kent Swartz 5th, both missing 3rd position by less than a tenth; with Ntiyiso Mabunda and Mahlori Mothlabani 11th and 12th.

Race one Kent Swartz had an early race incident which dropped him down the order and he fought his way back up to 9th.
Wian Boshoff seemed to be at the right place at the right time, kept his nose clean, some got nose cone penalties and he bagged his first podium finish 2nd.
Ntiyiso Mabunda and Mahlori Mothlabani are not used to the Vereeniging Circuit , so they had a challenge set out for them all day, but taking one lap at a time, they did progress heat heat and bettered themselves.

Heat two the boy had a good dicing heat and finished 5th ( Bosshoff) and 6th (Swartz).
Onto the last heat of the day, some kids seemed to be showing signs of fatigue as the heat of the day was wearing itself into the drivers. Some spots of rain was showing here and there ,but the race stayed dry. Boshoff was overwhelmed racing with drivers older than him and for the first time he was mixing it with “the front group” and he settled for 4th. Swartz stormed through and bagged 5th.

Wian Boshoff’s hard work earned him his first podium in 2nd place. Kent Swartz just missed the podium in 7th with Ntiyiso Mabunda and Mahlori Mothlabani ending in 11th and 12th.

Fresh from the Italian racing experience in the Entry Level category, Aadam Kajee drove the best race to date in the Bambino category.
With winds picking up from time to time as storms were approaching, Aadam qualifed 2nd, ended 2nd in the first heat by a fraction and took two wins to win the day in style.
“The italian experience definitely helped Aadam and to add Moosa immensely as both have stepped up their game. I have never seen Aadam and Moosa dice, muscle and tussle it like they have today. I am so proud of all my Drivers today”
